Our Priorities
Our grants support the individuals and institutions working tirelessly to address the underlying drivers of inequality that align with these two programs.
First, uncertainty about whether impact investors can earn market rate of returns might limit non-impact investors' appetite for impact investments. Impact investing first gained prominence among philanthropists who were willing to accept "sub-commercial" returns. Today, impact investors' expectations vary; a growing segment of institutional investors seeks market rate of returns and has not been persuaded that impact investing can earn market rate of returns.
Second, the impact measurement has not yet evolved to the point at which a common standard has become widely accepted. Impact measurement does not yet have its equivalent of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). A lack of clarity about how investments are commonly measured gives rise to concerns about 'impact washing' which deters potential investors, and about limited impact performance comparable across different investments which poses a challenge to investors who are trying to allocate capital to impact investments, and threatens the credibility of the industry.

We believe that to create a more equitable world, we must support the next generation of leaders from the communities that build a brighter future for us all.
The program secures educational access, institutional excellence, and societal progress, particularly: (i) alleviate total cost of attendance to ensure a multi-perspective student cohort, elevating the institutional learning environment for all scholars; (ii) fund highly qualified, underrepresented students, converting latent talent into socio-economic mobility; (iii) attract, retain, and reward top-tier academic talent and research excellence. The beneficiaries of this Program include HKUST the Ying Family PhD Research Award Scholars, Duke University the YING Family Scholars Fellowship, YMCG the YING Family Music Fellowship Award Endowment and HK Phil Maestro Jaap Amazing Young Artist Concert Series.
Engaging Communities
The Program supports the building of an ecosystem where next-generation leaders can thrive by funding tech startups and offering innovation training for young founders and by hosting the annual art and cultural festival for young musicians to nurture young musical talent, foster artistic excellence, and promote cultural exchange for the Greater Bay Area with the world. Through these integrated efforts, we aim to build youth agencies, drive sustainable economic mobility and create a vibrant community. The beneficiaries of this Program include YMCG Symphany Orchestra, UNICEF, The Carter Center, UNICEF and Food Angel.

Core Mission
To recognize and reward exceptional Ph.D. students at the HKUST Energy Institute who demonstrate outstanding research performance and achievements in sustainability, environmental studies, energy technology, green technology, and related disciplines.

The Ying Family PhD Research Award was established at the HKUST Energy Institute (EI) through a generous donation from the Foundation for Amazing Potentials. Launched to create new opportunities for postgraduate researchers, the award honors doctoral students whose work provides practical, high-impact solutions for building a sustainable community and enhancing quality of life.
Each academic year, the program grants awards consisting of a one-off cash prize to full-time Ph.D. candidates who maintain academic excellence (a cumulative grade average of 3.5 or above and top-tier annual progress ratings) and focus on real-life challenges in energy and environmental innovation. By incentivizing boldness, creativity, and perseverance in academic inquiry, the award supports the next generation of scholars driving groundbreaking green technologies and sustainability discoveries.

To fund and empower exceptional Ph.D. students in Materials Science and Engineering at Duke University, driving groundbreaking research in energy and sustainability materials to deliver transformative technical innovation and societal impact.

The YING Family Scholars Fellowship is a prestigious doctoral fellowship program established within the Duke Materials Initiative (DMI) through the generous support of Steven Ying and Young Kim P'29 via the Foundation for Amazing Potentials Ltd. The fellowship supports high-impact research aimed at advancing energy sustainability and materials engineering.
Selected candidates receive a comprehensive two-year award covering full doctoral stipends, tuition, graduate school fees, health insurance, and dedicated annual travel funding for research and conference presentations. The program targets Ph.D. researchers working on critical sustainability challenges, including solar energy semiconductors, advanced batteries and fuel cells, carbon sequestration systems, energy-efficient computing, and computational materials discovery. The YMCG YING Family Music Fellowship Award Endowment is a flagship philanthropic initiative designed to dismantle financial barriers for gifted young musicians and build the next generation of global orchestral leaders. Endowed in perpetuity by a generous grant from the Foundation for Amazing Potentials (FAP) and supported in strategic philanthropy by High Impact Capital Advisors Limited (HICA), the endowment serves as a permanent pillar of support for Youth Music Culture The Greater Bay Area (YMCG).
The initiative funds fully underwritten fellowships for top-tier emerging musicians under the age of 30 from China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), North America, and Europe. Selected recipients undergo an intensive, two-week music and cultural residency in the Greater Bay Area, featuring direct mentorship from section leaders of premier global symphony orchestras, rigorous chamber music study, and orchestral performances led by YMCG Music Director Daniel Harding.
To ensure complete equity of access, the fellowship provides comprehensive financial support covering 100% of program tuition, round-trip international transportation, lodging, local travel, and living stipends. By combining perpetual capital with rigorous governance supervised by an independent Board of Overseers, the YING Family Music Fellowship Award Endowment advances artistic excellence, enriches regional cultural leadership, and strengthens global musical exchanges.

Key featured programs include the "for every child, care & relief" campaign—which delivered vital anti-epidemic supplies, food, and educational materials to 7,500 underprivileged families—alongside youth empowerment channels like the "for every child, we listen" radio and TV broadcasts co-produced with RTHK.
